9. Being Dutiful to Parents as long as that does not entail disobedience to Allah
18. Abu'd-Darda' said, "The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace,
recommended nine things to me: 'Do not associate anything with Allah, even if you are cut to pieces or burned. Do not abandon a prescribed prayer deliberately. Anyone who abandons it will forfeit Allah's protection. Do not intake khamr (wine or any other intoxicant in general) - it is the key to every evil. Obey your parents. If they command you to abandon your worldly possessions, then leave them for them. Do not contend with those in power, even if you think that you are in the right. Do not run away from the army when it advances, even if you are killed while your companions run away. Spend on your family out of your means. Do not raise a stick against your family. And instill in them fear for Allah's sake, the Almighty and Exalted.'"
Shaykh Al-Albaani graded this hadeeth with the grading of hasan as we find in "irwaa al-ghaleel" like wise another shorter narration of this hadeeth is to be found in the sunan of Ibn Maajah in the book of Al-Fitan under the chapter heading concerning patience upon hardship hadeeth number 4034.
Al-Albaani in commenting upon the statement "Anyone who abandons it will forfeit
Allah's protection" says "i.e. that everyon has a covenant of protection (from Allah), But if that individual puts his hands forth toward his own destruction, or he commits an act which is haraam upon him, or opposes that which Allah has ordered him with the grace and protection of Allah will be recede from him.
